The Avo
Its green, the exterior resembles alligator skin and the rich somewhat slimy texture of this unique fruit IS the low-carb super food of the moment

Whilst the Avo goes back almost 10,000 years, heralding from (you guessed it) Mexico, it really only hit our tables in the late 70's early 80's when Mexican cuisine started gaining momentum.

Bring it forward to 2018 and the Avocado is now scientifically known to have unbelievable powerful health benefits and we just cannot get enough of them! And not just in our guacamole !

High in HEALTHY fats (ones that offer significant benefits), the Avocado is abundant with nutrients such as;

  • Vitamin K: 26% of the daily value (DV)
  • Folate: 20% of the DV
  • Vitamin C: 17% of the DV
  • Potassium: 14% of the DV More than a Banana!!
  • Vitamin B5: 14% of the DV
  • Vitamin B6: 13% of the DV
  • Vitamin E: 10% of the DV

Adding an avocado to either a salad can increase antioxidant absorption 15-fold!
And if you value your eyes studies show that Avo's are linked to drastically reduce risk of cataracts and macular degeneration in older adults

Avocado's are delicious and easy to incorporate into either breakfast, lunch or dinner Salads, soups, smoothies, dips or simply do what I do grab a spoon and simply scoop and eat!

* TIP
If your avocado is firm and you need to fasten the ripening process simply place in a brown paper bag with a Banana (the ethylene from the banana acts as a ripening agent)
